It would make it faster to get back to the last worked on patch after loading gamma. This is a very common feature in many other programs. Sketches might have a special space still but the other recently opened files should be available just as well.
I guess another menu entry called Recent Documents?
If/when this is implemented I also suggest adding a keyboard shortcut to load the most recent Document. You have something like this in After Effects to open the latest project and I find it very handy.
in the meantime, right click VL in the start menu or the taskbar, windows should provide you with a list of recent docs:
