duplicating a node places the new one visually on top, if overlapping, mouse will pick up the one behind it though.
stumble over that one constantly in dense node areas like regions…

Ah thanks for reporting this bug!
It seems to me that it follows the order in which nodes were created (First come, first served kind-of). A previous created node will always take the lead and be selectable even though it is overlapped by another one. It doesn’t follow the hierarchy you visually see.
On-top of that, there is the fact that you can interact with a pin of a node that is supposed to be behind another one. It is visually hidden, but still interactive.
