The issue with “jumping” when closing a tab

This is a very old issue, and I kindly ask you to consider fixing it.

I will describe the problem: if you have many tabs (often due to large nested patches), you sometimes have to close the extra ones while working. And the following happens: If you close a tab, the focus jumps to the tab to the left of the one you are closing, even though you were focused on another tab.

This happens EVERY time and is an oversite and UX issue. And it’s very annoying

Expected behavior: similar to a browser, you remain on your tab, unless the active tab is closed, then the focus moves to the left of the closing tab.

If anyone else has encountered issues with tabs, please bring it up and write about it (in a separate thread). I think there may be more than one problem, but I’m not sure.

Indeed, that’s an annoying one. We’ll look into it!

(And please if possible create separate threads for separate issues)

I tried the new version. Thank you very much! I should have written earlier.
However, I noticed that closing the active tab takes you back to the very beginning, to the first tab.

7.2-3

Right, upcoming will switch to the one on the left if closing current. Otherwise it will stay on the tab.

7.2-3 is a quick fix, but will the upcoming version ship with the behaviour we discussed?

Closing active → switch to the one on the left
Closing any other than active → stay

That’s the behavior you should see starting with 7.2-0004

@Elias It’s amazing! I’ve just checked. I definitely should have written earlier! Thank you so much!

The experience is much better instantly.
