Paper Pop-up Projections

One Sentence: Whats happening in your workshop?
This is a tabletop analog/digital scenographic experience for youth; a (free?) workshop to introduce them to VVVV’s generative possibilities while taking some myth out of projection mapping for kids, and developing basic spatial concepts as architectural spaces through engaging with some tangible forms with scenographic paper pop-ups.

What 3 tags describe your workshop?
Architecture, Projection Mapping, Pop-ups

In which of the three categories does your workshop fall: beginner, intermediate, advanced
Beginner

How long will your workshop be?
(Standard formats are 3h or 2x 3h, but other formats may be possible)
1.5-3 hrs.

Who is the target audience of your workshop?
10-16yr. youth, parents, anyone

What knowledge do you presume your participants have?

What will attendees of your workshop learn?
The participants will experience and learn a creative approach to analog/digital work-flow. The plan is to make the workshop a fun and informative experience aimed as an entry-point to VVVV as a digital toolkit and architectural thinking. There will be an introduction video presentation about the topics; next we continue with physical activities of folding (not cutting) paper pop-up templates and spatially assembling them into scenes, which in the second half will be mapped using mini projectors and rudimentary VVVV patches.

What technical requirements does your workshop have (apart from internet and a projector)?
e.g. special hardware, software, graphic cards, materials, dancers/performers
The main tools are the following and will be provided:

  • VVVV patches for geometric shape vector templates and projections
  • Few Mini or Pico LED Projectors and mini tripods
  • Paul Jackson’s awesome Pop-up design book for reference
  • A4/A3, 230-270gsm white paper pop-up templates
We’ll provide all the workshop’s VVVV patches, mini projectors, and all the precut paper templates, as well as a supporting web page on http://vacant.tv
