Hello all <3
I’m a bit concerned as vvvv beta is still my favorite tool ever, and will probably remain that way for 2 or 3 decades to come :)
I noticed that it’s no longer possible to install the latest version 50beta42 at all: both the regular install link breaks:
-The setup file fails after downloading 197.95MB with a “File not found” message (DirectX install removed from Microsoft servers I believe).
I know that the project has gone to gamma, but it would be wonderful to preserve the legacy and the beauty of the project. I do have backups of course, but I’m still recommending, promoting beta around me, I’d love if people could still be able to discover beta !
Can I help in anyway to make the links available again ?
Oh wow thank you so much @bjoern this is great indeed (maybe you need to be logged in for the first link to work ?) I hope the devs can make this functionning link the new default one on the download page !
I’ve also just tested and cannot confirm. This must have been a temporary hickup then. Generally we’ve put quite some effort into keeping all beta downloads, docs, forum- and blog-posts available, we’ve not planned to retire anything there..
I’m being very unlucky, I have no access to the legacy subdomain (tested on chrome and Brave on different machines, same on my phone).
The issue with setup.exe is that the broken DX link completey cancels the vvvv installation, making it unusable, but with the offline installer is still an alternative, with the link @bjoern shared it works, thank you ! <3
Thanks @joreg for the efforts the keep beta alive indeed !
if legacy.vvvv.org is completely down like in your screenshot, we indeed have to restart it (i just did). this happens from timetotime and we don’t have the resources to get to the bottom of the problem. so a manual restart it is.
as for the dx problem: i’d hope that if you install dx manually before running the vvvv setup (from the link pointed to above), setup should also go through. but obviously offline installer is also good.
I don’t think if dx fails it would let you finish the installer, in any case why not provide an offline one vvvv.org directly instead of trying to fix legacy stuff…
