Lat./Long. -> Cartesian Mercator X/Y

Hi,

anyone interested in a patch that transforms the geographical coordinates longitude and latitude into cartesian X and Y values of a Mercator projection?

Have not tested it with real GPS data, but will come to that soon. I’ve not found any useful patch around here, that does what I needed so I implemented what wikipedia says on the mathematical part of the Mercator projection…

perhaps you like to enhance the helpfile a little bit.
sadly i don’t have the time to dig deep inside.
what do you think about this approach?
